Pre-Admission Testing for Surgery

In preparation for your surgery, we ask that you call to schedule an appointment for your pre-admission testing (PAT) immediately following booking. This testing is for your safety and is required in order to proceed with your particular procedure. Our staff is available to schedule appointments from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Please call 978-687-0156, ext. 2530 or 2675. Our helpful checklist will help you get the most out of this appointment.

Prior to your arrival, we ask that you complete registration. Registration will attempt to contact you to complete your registration in advance of your PAT appointment. If they are unable to reach you, please stop in the Admitting Department in the main lobby, next to the Gift Shop. Plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time to complete this prior to your PAT appointment. 

During your pre-admission testing visit, you will meet with members of our health care team who will work hard to ensure that your surgical experience is safe and comfortable. Please plan on this appointment lasting approximately one to two hours. Because the testing process is individualized for each patient, the length of time will vary. Thank you in advance for being on time for this appointment as it ensures a smoother experience for you and those individuals who have an appointment after you.

Your visit may include:

  • Laboratory tests, X-rays and/or EKG
  • Interview with one of our nurses
  • History and physical performed by the nurse practitioner (NP)
  • Consult with our anesthesia department 

In order to expedite your appointment, we ask that you fill out the preoperative medical questionnaire prior to your visit and either fax it to 978-687-9392 or bring it with you to your pre-admission testing appointment. Completing this questionnaire ahead of time will also reduce your total appointment time. If you do not see a nurse during your pre-admission testing visit, a nurse will call you prior to your procedure to verify your health information and give you instructions for the 24 hours leading up to your procedure. Please take a moment to complete the medical questionnaire and review the surgical guidelines and pre-operative checklist. This will help ensure that everything is complete prior to arrival and will help prevent last minute cancellations of your surgery.

We ask that if you are unable to keep your appointment, or if you are going to be delayed, that you please let us know by calling 978-687-0156, ext. 2530 or ext. 2675. Delays in pre-admission testing may lead to a change in your surgery date or time.

Important: For patients with a cardiologist (heart specialist) or pulmonologist (lung specialist), please contact your physician immediately upon scheduling surgery as you will likely be required to see this physician prior to surgery.
