Your Room

The comfort and cleanliness of your room are the top priority of our environmental services department. They welcome your observations, suggestions and questions. If your room is not to your satisfaction, please let your nurse know.

Should you need to call for a nurse during your stay, a nurse call unit/intercom system is located next to your bed. Your nursing staff will be glad to show you how to operate the system. Should you wish to adjust the room temperature, please inform the nurse.

Personal Belongings

Please understand that you are responsible for all personal items you bring with you. We recommend that you bring only essential personal items such as a robe, slippers and toiletries. If you need to bring other items (glasses, a walker or hearing aid), please label them with your name.

The hospital provides access to a safe, at no cost to you. We do not assume responsibility for any valuable that are not placed in a safe. We recommend that you send all jewelry, clothing and valuables home, and suggest that you keep only a small amount of money with you. Items kept with you are your responsibility.

Food and Nutrition

Good nutrition is an important part of your recover. Our food services department prepares your food to meet your nutritional needs. Menu selections will be modified as necessary to meet the dietary guidelines your physician has defined.

Telephones

Pay phones are located in the lobby and emergency areas. Bedside phones are available in our medical/surgical and birthing center units. All telephones in the hospital are equipped with volume control devices. Please notify your nurse manager if you require a TDD device. You may receive calls between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. and can place calls anytime. If you find that you cannot make outgoing calls after your admission, please dial "0" and ask the switchboard operator to activate your telephone. Any problems with the telephone can be reported to your nurse or to the switchboard operator. To place a local call* dial 9, wait for a dial tone and dial the number you wish to call.* Please note, calls to Salem, NH are local calls. When placing this call, you will need to dial the area code (603). To place a long-distance call, either within or out of the (978) area code, dial 9 and wait for the dial tone. Within Massachusetts, dial 0, the area code and number you are calling. Outside of Massachusetts, dial 00, the area code and the number you are calling.

Safety and Security

For your personal safety, there are a number of practices we follow. You also play an important role in your safety and can help us by following these precautions:

  • If you must leave your bed during the night, please call your nurse for assistance.
  • Do not get into or out of a wheelchair unassisted.
  • Use handrails in the restrooms, bath and shower.
  • In the event of a fire or disaster emergency, our staff will appropriately assist you. Please note, on occasion, we conduct routine drills for fire and disaster preparedness. These drills are only test.

Television

All hospital televisions are equipped with telecaptioners for the hearing impaired. We are also pleased to offer NESN (Channel 9) to our patients. A TV guide is offered within the printed patient guide for your convenience.

Mail and Flowers

Mail and flowers may be sent to a patient in care of:

Specifying a room number is helpful, but not necessary. Mail and flowers are delivered daily to patient rooms. If mail or flowers arrive after a patient has been discharged, we will make arrangements to have them sent to a forwarding address.

Wireless Computer Access

While visiting Holy Family Hospital, you may use your personal laptop computer to access the internet. When logging on, you must first accept an online service agreement. If you need assistance, a quick reference guide to the guest internet service can be obtained from the front desk in the lobby. The guide includes directions on accessing the information as well as frequently asked questions about access, procedures, bandwidth and security. Please note that the information services staff does not provide support services to users of the guest internet.

Parking

Parking is free of charge at Holy Family Hospital. You may park in the lots in front or in back of the hospital. The lot being the acute care facility (Irving E. Rogers Building) may also be used by visitors and patients using the emergency department, the laboratory and other outpatient services.

We ask that you observe parking restrictions for the handicapped.

Handicapped Access

Parking is available for our handicapped guests and all of our main entrances are handicapped accessible.

No Smoking Policy

In order to provide the safest and healthiest environments for our patients, visitors and staff, Holy Family is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is not permitted on hospital grounds, inside or outside.

Cafeteria

Visitors are welcome to enjoy the cafeteria, located on the first floor. A salad bar, sandwiches, lunch and dinner options, desserts, and more are available. The cafeteria is open from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Vending Machines

Soda, fruit juice and snack vending machines are located in the emergency department waiting area as well as in the cafeteria.

Cash Machine

An ATM is located on the first floor, down the hall from the main lobby by the registrar.

Gift Shop

Our gift shop is located in the lobby, near the main entrance. A variety of reading materials, gifts, and personal items are offered. Our volunteers are happy to deliver purchases to patients. Please call the gift shop at extension 2172 to make arrangements.

Gift shop hours are:

Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sunday and Holidays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Newspapers

Newspapers are sold in vending machines in the front lobby. Copies of community newspapers, including Methuen Life, are also available in the lobby. A complimentary copy of The Eagle-Tribune is provided to patients daily with their meal.

Books and Magazines

Our volunteer services department provides books and magazines for hospital visiting areas and waiting rooms. We welcome donations of current magazines and paperback books in good condition.
